How do we help learners with Down’s syndrome understand consent, personal choice, and decision making?

Welcome to Issue 10 of the Learn and Thrive update.

This month we’re launching our new Consent & Decision Making series, opening Parent Codes for families, and celebrating World Down’s Syndrome Day with a quiz.

There’s lots to share — from updates on our education subscription discounts to welcoming new trustees to the board. Take a look at what we’ve been up to.

Quick Reminder - Get Your Parent Code

We announced in our last newsletter that our Parent Codes were becoming available to all parents, carers, and families who are using our resources.

For free, or an optional donation, you can get a Parent Code which will get you all of the resources totally free. We’re committed to ensuring that the individuals who need our content most get access, so we are supporting families to do so.

'Consent' is STARTING!

It feels like a lifetime since we started talking about our next series, Consent. But we’ve finally been able to press ‘GO’!

We’ve started script writing with our fantastic experts, Mel Gadd from The Sex Education Company and Claire Lightley from Bodysense Education.

Our new Consent & Decision Making series will help learners understand their rights, their choices, and the support available to them in everyday life.

For our community, understanding how to make decisions, express preferences, and recognise when support or reasonable adjustments are needed is incredibly empowering. This series will give learners the tools to better understand their own lives and take an active role in the choices that affect them.

This series is only possible because of the generous funding and support we have received from the Albert Gubay Foundation and other grant funders.

Welcoming New Trustees

We’re so pleased to welcome two new trustees to our board!

Our board is so engaged, and makes a huge difference to the way our charity runs day-to-day, as well as supporting on charity-wide decisions and strategy.

So we welcome Tracey Barber and Parul Shah to our board. Both Tracey and Parul bring a wealth of personal and professional experience to our board, and they’re already getting stuck in!
