How To… Be Healthy - Series Breakdown

Part 1 of our first ‘How To…’ series is being released in just a few days’ time!

The ‘How To… Be Healthy’ series begins by covering the first element covered in the ‘Being Healthy’ series of Learning for Life - being active. A 9-video series covering a wide range of exercises is the newest installment in the project!

What’s the new series for?

We know that it’s useful to have the learning around how to be healthy set-out, as we do in the ‘Being Healthy’ series. This means learners will understand what is happening in our bodies when we exercise, eat well, and look after ourselves. Understand how it makes us feel, and the physical implications. But we didn’t want to leave it here - we’re providing learners with practical activities to go alongside all the elements of being healthy. The first part, to be released on 15th May, is all about being active!

What does it cover?

This series has an incredible range of exercises, both low and high energy. We have brought in professionals and members of the Down’s syndrome community to show our learners what to do! Whatever works for the individual, there’s an exercise in this series that will work for them. Some people may find some exercises challenging, but where needed these videos give higher and lower intensity version. They are also delivered and/or demonstrated by those with learning needs so it is all achievable and accessible.

Here’s a list of the videos, and who they are run by:

  • Keep Fit

  • Strength

  • Zumba

  • Dance

  • Booty Barre

  • Pilates

  • Yoga

Who features?

All the companies who run each video are in each of the videos. Some of these professionals have Down’s syndrome, and for those that don’t, we’ve included individuals with Down’s syndrome in the videos. Inclusivity is a key pillar of these new ‘How To’ series. Here’s who’s involved:

  • Members of the Tailfeather Dance team

  • Maya, Learning for Life ambassador

  • Hannah, Zumba instructor

  • William and Alexandra from Down Syndrome North East

  • Marie from ZenergiZe

  • Joe from Inclusive Sport

  • Jess from Yo!Kids

Sign up to the Learning for Life project to get full access to all these videos, and let your young person enjoy exercise, alongside people who represent them!
