Introducing… our first Learning for Life ambassador!

Many of you will already know Maya – she is a model and actress with Down’s syndrome, she has worked with brands like Dove and Nike, featured in magazines, and been a part of campaigns by Positive About Down’s Syndrome (PADS). Read Maya’s own words about her life, experience with Learning for Life, and new ambassadorship!

“I am 17 years old – about to be 18 on the 19th January, which is really exciting! Having a birthday on a Friday is really fun when Friday is your favourite day!”

We are so excited to announce that she is our first Learning for Life ambassador!

“My life is fun. I love spending time with my friends and family and I love them all. I love my home and I’m thankful for everyone and everything in my life. I am happy to be in this world. I really like college and its loads of fun, though sometimes the work can be hard. But I have amazing teachers and friends who help me. When I’m not in college, I like going to my acting lessons at the Chickenshed Theatre. It’s a second home for people who love acting and I want to do that for the rest of my life! I’m hoping to study a BTec course there and I will get to be in more shows, learn about backstage and learn sign language.”

Maya works to break down barriers for those with Down’s syndrome across a wide range of disciplines. Her and her Mum share the initiatives and promotions she is a part of on her Instagram accounts (@be_more_maya). Every day, she inspires the community to prove that Down’s syndrome is not a barrier in her life. This blog showcases some of her photos from modelling!

As a star in our Emotions series, Maya showcases her incredible talent!

Including individuals, like Maya, in our series helps provide inclusive representation to our users, something that we feel very strongly about.

I have been using Learning for Life for about six months. I really like it because it is very inclusive, and the videos actually help you. Plus I am in some of them! My favourites are the Friendship series because friendships are important
— Maya

“I feel really excited to be an Ambassador for Learn and Thrive. The resources are really helpful for everyone of all different ages, and we can learn and try new things!“
