Not only are the resources built for learners with SEND, the Learning Hub is built to support educators to deliver RSHE with ease.
Repeatable, age-appropriate learning
Learners with Down’s syndrome and SEND need repeated learning. They need to come back time and again for it to really be reinforced.
And some learners won’t have had this learning ever before.
So we’ve made sure that our content is age-appropriate. It teaches KS1 and KS2 learning in a way that is accessible and relevant - whether your learners are at this key stage, or beyond. Learning and revisiting teaching, and making it relevant to what their life is like now, is the best way for those with SEND to really grasp these concepts.
SEND-specific, not adapted from mainstream
Created specifically for learners with Down’s syndrome and SEND, we never adapt from mainstream content.
Each series and resource is created with experts across each topic and in SEND teaching.
We start with the Down’s syndrome learning profile, creating:
Content that can be repeated and adapted as learners grow
Bold, bright resources to support visual impairment
Use of the written word alongside Widgit symbols and real life photos
Shorter activities to keep focus
Skills-based teaching
We don’t teach and run.
Our key focus is skills. It’s great to know that you shouldn’t be friends with everyone, but how do you identify unsafe or unhealthy friendships? And how would you take the steps to end that friendship?
Real life skills that can be taken into their real lives - that’s what drives our content.
Our Learning Hub includes full access to the videos and resources in the Learning for Life project.
Learning for Life is built around the RSHE curriculum, delivering required teaching in a way that is appropriate for learners from late primary through to young adulthood. As a charity, we’re able to enhance the curriculum with topics we know our community specifically needs. We add these topics based on the lived and learned experiences of parents and professionals within local community groups across the UK.
We cover a range of topics, from appropriate touch and personal space, to screen time, to understanding the Mental Capacity Act.
