🍳 Community Cooking Day – Get Involved!

We’re inviting you and your young person to take part in our exciting Community Cooking Day on Sunday 13th July 2025!

Open to young people with Down’s syndrome aged 13+, and a member of Downright Excellent.

This isn’t just a cooking session—it’s a chance to dive into real-life independent cooking skills and explore how we can make the kitchen a more inclusive place for everyone.

What to Expect

  • 9:45am arrival for 10:00am start

  • Get to know each other!

  • Young people will join Nic, Darren, and our community volunteers to learn key cooking skills and prepare delicious meals

  • Parent/carers will join OT Ciara and Specialist Sandra Redman, gaining practical advice and strategies for involving your child in cooking at home

  • Around 12:30--1:30pm - Community Lunch with the meals prepared by your young people!

This day is about building confidence, independence, and inclusion—and having a lot of fun while we do it!

All timings are estimates and are likely to change slightly.

Why Take Part?

  • Builds confidence, independence, and inclusion

  • Fun!

  • Shaping a new Learning for Life series, teaching the skills your young people will be learning

Getting Involved

Spaces are limited, so we’re asking families to complete the form below and, if possible, upload a photo or short video of your young person:

  • Cooking at home
    or

  • With their favourite food

This helps us make sure we’re including a wide range of families and learning needs.

At Learn and Thrive, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do—and your involvement helps shape resources that support our whole community.

We’ll also have a film crew with us to capture the day. They may ask to speak with you about your experience and why learning these skills matters. Some young people may even have the chance to get involved in future filming!
